Dear applicant, please note the following:

  • When you submit your application, understand that there is a high probability that the Dane that you are interested at the time of application may not be available for adoption when you get through the adoption screening and become an approved adopter. This process can take anywhere from 3-8 weeks.
  • Once you are an approved adopter and notify UMGDR of your interest in a Dane, you will be added to the waiting list of adopters for the Danes that are in high demand. If there is no one else that has been approved before you and interested in the same Dane, then you may have a good chance of adopting the Dane.
  • UMGDR does have many approved adopters who may be interested in the same Dane that you are when you apply to adopt.
  • Senior and Special Need Danes will have a better chance of being open than young Danes in good health. We try to be as fair as possible to all of our applicants, and put into consideration what is best for our Danes when coming to a decision about adoption.
  • If an applicant has changed residence since the time of initial application UMGDR reserved the right to require another home visit prior to processing an adoption request.
  • If you have adopted from us in the past UMGDR requires at least 60 days have past before adopting from us again.

Please understand that UMGDR has no control of how many Danes come into our care. In an ideal world, there would be no need for a rescue. It is great that so many of you are interested in rescuing a Great Dane and adopting from UMGDR. Having more applicants than Danes is wonderful, and we thank you for you patience. We also thank you for your understanding that we are all volunteers and the sole reason that we do this is for the Danes. If you are still interested in giving one of our wonderful Danes a great home, then please fill out our adoption application to get the process started. The sooner you start the process, the sooner you may be able to bring a loving new member into your family.
