The rescue is always in need of help, whether it is for a few hours or a few months. These wonderful creatures we are saving just want love and care. Together we can make this happen by volunteering twice a year or fostering a Great Dane. Even if you can‘t do hands-on with the dogs there are many things you can do to help them. A few are listed below.
If you are interested in helping – fill out the volunteer application form.
FOSTERING Provides a safe, loving home for the dog to heal from past traumas, gets the Dane needed veterinary attention and good food. Many of these dogs will need intense one-on-one attention to overcome past traumas. Each dog is different and will need different care and training.
TRANSPORT Pick up the Dane and transport it to the foster home. We cover all of Minnesota, Western Wisconsin, Northern Iowa and the eastern Dakotas. Our Transport Coordinator will send information to the transport team to set up a Dane Train when needed. Our goal is to have several volunteers for the transport so no one person will be on the road for hours on end.
HOME VISITS A home visit and reference checks are done on each applicant before a Dane is placed with them. This entails visiting with the applicant at their home, observing the environment, both physical and emotional, contacting the references on the application and determining if this is a suitable home for the Dane. Different Danes will have different needs in what constitutes a proper home for them.
DONATIONS Help is always needed to obtain donations to keep the rescue running. These can be in the form of cash, crates, blankets, veterinary supplies, veterinary care, and more.
